RSRP provided training to Comision Nacional de Energia (CNE) on Advanced Regulatory Information System (ARIS 1.5) throughout December 9-11. The objective of this activity was to upgrade Access-based RASOD/AUTHORIZATION software for accounting the disposition of radiation sources to ARIS 1.5, an SQL based system with improved user interface and new features. RSRP program sponsored a workshop on inspections in radiotherapy held in Tunis, Tunisia, November 11-15, 2013. The workshop was organized by the Tunisian National Centre for Radioprotection (CNRP). Foreign participants represented radiation protection regulatory bodies from 17 African countries, namely Botswana, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Ethiopia, Gabon, Kenya, Libya, Namibia, Niger, Nigeria, Madagascar, Mauritania, Sierra Leone, Sudan, Uganda, Tanzania and Zimbabwe. RSRP country participants presented two topical papers and four posters at the conference in Abu Dhabi during October 27-31, 2013. The conference focused on member states’ progress in achieving the objectives of the Code of Conduct for Safe and Secure use of radiation sources, discussed issues associated with integration of safety and security, the approach to handling of disused sources, emergency response, and continuing efforts with orphan sources. The RSRP instructor installed Advanced Regulatory Information System (ARIS 1.5) that contains RASOD (sources database), AUTHORIZATION (licensee database) and LICENSEE (facility database) software. Regulatory body representatives from countries from Latin America and the Caribbean gathered in Panama City, Panama during September 9-11, 2013 to discuss the status of the RSRP project activities. The objective of the meeting was to discuss progress on inventorying of radiation sources and the development of the national registry and to share project experience. RSRP progress meetings were held during April 22-April 26, 2013 in Dominican Republic. Discussions were held with CNE (National Commission for Energy) regarding the results of Phase 1 of radiation sources inventory (Santo Domingo /city and province/ and Mote Plata) and plans for Phase 2, which will cover the northern provinces of the country.
