April 17th, 2014 —

During February 17-21, 2014 RSRP provided training to Uganda´s Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development Atomic Energy Council (AEC) of on Advanced Regulatory Information System (ARIS 1.5). The objective of this activity was to upgrade access-based RASOD/AUTHORIZATION software for accounting the disposition of radiation sources to ARIS 1.5, an SQL based system with improved user interface and new features. The RSRP instructor installed ARIS 1.5 and explained the advantages of having the new modules for AUTHORIZATION and LICENSE. Detailed guidance was provided on successful installation/de-installation of ARIS 1.5. Under the new concept of the LICENSE module, hands on exercises demonstrated improved methods of information management for facilities using ionizing radiation sources. Training was conducted by Grigol Basilia of the Department for Nuclear and Radiation Safety of Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources Protection of Georgia. ARIS 1.5 will be implemented as AEC proceeds with the next phase of the inventory project under the RSRP program. Part of the training included INSPECTION online module of ARIS.

The visit was a good opportunity to share experience for conducting an outreach project for the license applicants. The participants discussed the experience of the Republic of Georgia in engaging potential licensees in the licensing process by conducting “Licensing Seminars” in various municipalities around the country. “License Application Manual” was extensively discussed to address the process details of the project.
