RSRP visited the Republic of Congo in the capital, Brazzaville, from March 5-7, 2018. An existing “nuclear” law provides legal authority over import and export, transport and storage and medical uses of radiation sources to the Ministry of Mines and Geology. RSRP met with a Senior Counselor, a Legal Manager and legal and technical staff at the Ministry of Justice, representative from the Ministry of Defense and the Director General and staff from the National Institute for Research in the Natural Sciences (IRSEN). Discussions included a new, more comprehensive law which will create a regulatory body (expected in the summer of 2018), potential cooperation in the area of inventory and the development of a national registry of radiation sources.
