RSRP conducted a one-week workshop on Design and Shielding Calculation in Medical Radiological Facilities in La Paz, Bolivia, from March 5-9, 2018. This is part of the ongoing collaboration between IBTEN and RSRP aiming to strengthen Radiation Protection in the country. The workshop is designed to take into account the current medical technologies in the country and new equipment being introduced.
Discussions included several medical imaging and therapeutic modalities for purposes of shielding calculation and design optimization, with a special focus on the Radiation Therapy Practice. The reference literature for the workshop are the documents NCRP145, NCRP147 and NCRP151. Software and other computer tools were provided to the participants to support the shielding calculation process. The workshop focused on the development of many practical examples by the participants and supervised by the instructors. At the end of the workshop, the participants demonstrated the new acquired knowledge through a test that covered all developed topics.
