RSRP Visits Guatemala

During May 12-14, RSRP provided training on the Advanced Regulatory Information System (ARIS1.5) to General Division of Energy (DGE) of the Ministry of Energy and Mines. The objective of this activity was to upgrade Access-based RASOD/AUTHORIZATION software for accounting the disposition of radiation sources to ARIS 1.5, an SQL based system with improved user interface and new features. The RSRP instructors installed ARIS 1.5 and explained the advantages of having the new modules for AUTHORIZATION and LICENSEE. Detailed guidance was provided on successful installation/de-installation of ARIS 1.5 and system backup. Hands on exercises demonstrated improved methods of information management for facilities using ionizing radiation sources. Training was conducted by Grigol Basilia of the Department for Nuclear and Radiation Safety of Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources Protection of Georgia and Mario Rodriguez of AdSTM.

The visit included discussions with the Vice Minister of Energy, Edwin Rodas, and DGE Director, Julio Solares, regarding current and future projects in strengthening the regulatory oversight of radiation sources in Guatemala.
