USNRC Delivers Training on Licensing and Inspection of Industrial Radiography Operations in the Republic of the Congo

From February 23-28th, 2019, the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission’s RSRP conducted a consultation with the Ministry of Mining & Geology (MMG) in coordination with the National Ministry of Defense in Brazzaville, Republic of the Congo. Rick Muñoz provided information and guidance to the Congo regulatory staff, faculty members from the local University and staff employees from three industrial radiography and three well logging operator/user licensees. The objective was to enhance the understanding of the importance of Licensing and Inspection of Industrial Radiographic operations and to provide technical bases for those activities. The consultation provided participants with technical information, suggestions and recommendations to improve and further develop the country’s regulatory program related to industrial radiography. The recommendations and suggestions included the promulgation and implementation of new policy and regulations applicable to industrial radiography, and the development and implementation of licensing review and approval protocols and performance based inspection procedures.
