The US NRC Radiation Source Regulatory Partnership (RSRP) delivered a virtual training workshop on shielding calculation for industrial radiological sources with a focus on Nuclear Gauges. The workshop was conducted in two sessions: a theoretical session on July 1 and a hands-on practical session on July 3, 2020. The discussed topic addresses a common capacity building need across several RSRP partners. This activity was attended by regulatory staff from Colombia, Dominican Republic, Panama, Paraguay, Uruguay and the U.S. The workshop discussed the theoretical approach to perform shielding calculations for industrial radiological sources focusing on Nuclear Gauges followed by the development of several practical exercises completed by the participants and supervised by the instructors. The participants expressed their satisfaction for this activity that provided up-to-date knowledge on shielding design.
