Workshop on Inspections in Radiotherapy for FNRBA (Tunisia)

RSRP program sponsored a workshop on inspections in radiotherapy held in Tunis, Tunisia, November 11-15, 2013. The workshop was organized by the Tunisian National Centre for Radioprotection (CNRP). Foreign participants represented radiation protection regulatory bodies from 17 African countries, namely Botswana, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Ethiopia, Gabon, Kenya, Libya, Namibia, Niger, Nigeria, Madagascar, Mauritania, Sierra Leone, Sudan, Uganda, Tanzania and Zimbabwe. 

In addition to classroom instruction the workshop included practical exercises of simulated inspections of cobalt irradiator, linear accelerator and brachytherapy unit at a local hospital.  Mr. Jan Salava of AdSTM and Mrs. Zuzana Paskova, technical expert from the Czech Republic, assisted in preparing, performing and evaluation of inspections. RSRP is especially grateful to Dr. Azza Hammou of CNRP for delivering classroom instruction and hosting the event. 

On the margins of the workshop, Mr. Jan Salava of AdSTM informed participants about RSRP program and Mr. Deogratias Noah Luwalira, Secretary and CEO of Atomic Energy Council of Uganda, informed participants about his experience of working with RSRP on inventorization and establishment of the national registry of radiation sources in Uganda.
