The US NRC Radiation Source Regulatory Partnership (RSRP) delivered a virtual training workshop on shielding calculation for industrial radiological sources with a focus on Nuclear Gauges. The workshop was conducted in two sessions: a theoretical session on July 1 and a hands-on practical session on July 3, 2020. The discussed topic addresses a common capacity building need across several RSRP partners. This activity was attended by regulatory staff from Colombia, Dominican Republic, Panama, Paraguay, Uruguay and the U.S.
On June 17, 2020, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Radiation Sources Regulatory Partnership (RSRP) program met on-line with the Rwanda Utilities Regulatory Authority (RURA). The discussions mainly focused on the RURA’s interest to start collaborating on the development of Rwanda´s radiation sources/generators database and regulatory development, supported by the RSRP. Adapting to travel limitations imposed by COVID-19, the RSRP has shifted many of its activities to virtual sessions via ZOOM, Skype and other means.
On June 3, 2020, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Radiation Sources Regulatory Partnership (RSRP) program met on-line with the Group of Nuclear Affairs and Non-Conventional Energies of Ministry of Energy and Mines in Colombia. The discussions focused on ongoing regulatory work in Colombia and possible support from the RSRP. Several topics of interest from regulatory development to capacity building were identified as potential areas for collaboration.
From February 23-28th, 2019, the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission’s RSRP conducted a consultation with the Ministry of Mining & Geology (MMG) in coordination with the National Ministry of Defense in Brazzaville, Republic of the Congo. Rick Muñoz provided information and guidance to the Congo regulatory staff, faculty members from the local University and staff employees from three industrial radiography and three well logging operator/user licensees.
From February 19-21, 2020, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (U.S. NRC) attended the 15th Steering Committee Meeting of the Forum of Nuclear Regulatory Bodies in Africa (FNRBA). This activity was held at the headquarters of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna, Austria. The U.S. NRC provides important financial support to the FNRBA.
From January 20-24, 2020, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (U.S. NRC) attended the launch of the Radioactive Source Regulatory Infrastructure Development Project (RIDP) Part 2 for African countries at the headquarters of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna, Austria. Together with Canada and France, the U.S. NRC provides important financial support to this program.
From December 16-20, US NRC and AdSTM staff visited the NRSC, in Yerevan, Armenia and the IAEA, in Vienna, Austria to discuss the status of software development used to create a national registry of radiation sources and enhance a day-to-day regulatory oversight of radiation sources.

From November 18 - 22, 2019, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission's RSRP conducted a consultation with the Dominican Republic Comisiòn Nacional de Energía (CNE), in Santo Domingo. Mr. Rick Muñoz of AdSTM, Inc. provided information and guidance to the Dominican Republic’s Regulatory Authority with the objective of strengthening their Licensing and Inspection of Industrial Radiographic operations. The consultation was a component of an Action Plan for CNE with the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission.
