ARIS Upgrade in Paraguay

During August 8-9, 2019, U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (USNRC) Radiation Sources Regulatory Partnership (RSRP) visited Paraguay to upgrade the Advanced Regulatory Information System (ARIS) to its latest version ARIS 3.5 at the Autoridad Reguladora Radiologica y Nuclear (ARRN). RSRP provided training for the upgrade that contains a newly developed module (OCCUDOSE) to manage occupational exposure information. Paraguay will play an important role in testing the new module and providing feedback to further improve the software.

RSRP Delivers Radiation Therapy Training in The Dominican Republic

From August 5 to August 9, 2019, a consultation under the U.S. NRC RSRP was conducted at the National Commission of Energy (CNE) in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Mr. John R. Madera provided a workshop with information and guidance for the regulatory authority at the National Commission of Energy (CNE) with the objective of strengthening its regulation of medical facilities conducting treatments of patients through the use of a linear accelerator or high dose-rate remote after loader brachytherapy devices. ARIS Upgrade in Uruguay

RSRP Visits ANRA

On July 17-26, 2019, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (USNRC) Radiation Sources Regulatory Partnership (RSRP) conducted two workshops for the Armenian Nuclear Regulatory Agency (ANRA) Radiation Safety Department and the “Radiation Safety Center” technical support organization staff. 

Consultancy to Singapore on Licensing and Inspection of Industrial Radiography Operations

From June 17-21, 2019, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (USNRC) Radiation Sources Regulatory Partnership (RSRP) conducted a consultancy meeting with the Radiation Protection and Nuclear Science Department of the National Environment Agency (NEA) in Singapore. Rick Muñoz provided information and guidance to the NEA and authorized industrial radiography users with the objective of strengthening regulatory oversight of industrial radiographic operations.

RSRP Provides Radiation Safety Training in Cote D’Ivoire

From May 13-17, 2019, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission’s (NRC) Radiation Sources Regulatory Partnership (RSRP) provided radiation safety training in Cote D’Ivoire. This activity was in preparation to begin a radioactive sources inventory project in the country. The Radiation Protection, Nuclear Safety and Security Authority also received training on the use of the Advanced Regulatory Information System (ARIS), a software package to facilitate the inventory project. Approaches to radioactive source and generator data collection were also discussed.

RSRP Visits Zambia to Discuss Past, Current and Future Cooperation

On May 13, 2019, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (USNRC) Radiation Sources Regulatory Partnership (RSRP) visited Lusaka, Zambia. Eric Stahl of USNRC and John Kinneman of AdSTM met with senior officials from the Radiation Protection Authority to discuss Zambia’s national inventory of radiation sources, which was completed in 2018 with U.S. government support via the RSRP. In addition, both organizations discussed future collaboration, including various training activities and assistance with the development of Zambia’s nuclear regulatory and guidance documents.

RSRP Visits Uganda to Discuss Past, Current and Future Cooperation

On May 10, 2019, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (USNRC) Radiation Sources Regulatory Partnership (RSRP) visited Kampala, Uganda. Eric Stahl of USNRC and John Kinneman of AdSTM met with senior officials from the Atomic Energy Council (AEC) of Uganda to discuss the national inventory of radiation sources that was completed in 2018 with support from the RSRP, current activities of the AEC, and ongoing and future nuclear safety engagements.

Workshop on the Regulation of Medical Facilities in Paraguay

From May 6 to May 10, 2019, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) Radiation Sources Regulatory Partnership conducted a consultation at the Paraguayan Radiological and Nuclear Regulatory Authority (ARRN) in Asuncion, Paraguay. Ms. Diana Thompson, MS, CHP, RRPT  and Mr. John Madera, MBA, CNMT provided a workshop with information and guidance for the ARRN with the objective of strengthening their regulation of medical facilities conducting treatments of patients through the use of a Linear Accelerator and High Dose-rate Remote Afterloader brachytherapy devices.
