RSRP supports the development and updates to laws and regulations on safe use of nuclear energy and radiation protection. The work is performed by the RSRP partner country regulatory authority and/or their technical support organization with RSRP expertise provided by US and European experts.
The program develops user licensing guidance and conducts user workshops to facilitate the licensing process. RSRP also helps develop a program and inspection procedures for materials facilities, and provide training in conduct of inspections.
RSRP provides support to partner regulators to establish or update information on the disposition of radiation sources, by providing hands on instruction on the methods to successfully obtain and verify information on the radiation sources. RSRP also performs installation and training of RASOD national registry software.
RSRP supports partner agencies with supplementary physical infrastructure required for day-to-day regulatory oversight. This support varies depending on specific country and includes office space and renovation, transportation, office systems and equipment, and IT support.
RSRP has developed an advanced regulatory information system (ARIS) used worldwide. The system consists of several modules, namely RASOD, AUTHORIZATION, INSPECTION, LICENSEE, NUCMAT and TESTING. Additional software modules will cover Personnel Dosimetry.
RSRP supports a Spanish language post-graduate course on radiation protection, workshops on the physical protection of radiation sources, on-the-job training of radiation protection inspectors on specialized model inspections, and workshops focused on quality control / assurance of medical x‐ray equipment.
Regional Cooperation and support for IAEA
RSRP organizes regional “user groups” for regulators to periodically meet and discuss regulatory issues of common interest. RSRP also works with professional networks in Africa (FNRBA) and the Middle East (AAEA) to host a range of training programs. RSRP participates in the IAEA regulatory review missions and provides technical support for guidance development.View Participants
